More and more couples realize that marriage is equal parts about love/companionship and, also, partnership. To preserve assets during marriage, you may want to consider having a lawyer draft a pre-marital agreement, also known as a pre-nup.

Even if you did not get a pre-marital agreement prepared prior to marriage, Texas law allows for two spouses to separate their assets and debts without going through the process of divorce. In Texas, these are called partition and exchange agreements.
